Ten years after the original Band Of Gypsies album by Taraf de Haïdouks, the legendary Romanian band joins forces with Macedonia’s celebrated Koçani Orkestar on this new release. The encounter between these two mighty Roma groups is a musical feast that sparkles as it swings. The flamboyant repertoire shows off the rich dialogue between Taraf’s strings and accordion and Koçani’s brass and percussion in fiery songs arranged by artistic director Stéphane Karo. Karo has worked with both groups for many years and gives a great insight into the roots of their music in the detailed liner notes. An irrepressible, joyous energy leaps out of this 26-piece big band, don’t miss them on tour this summer.
